Hi. I teach at Olivet Nazarene University and am the Information Technology Librarian at their Benner Library and Resource Center. I’m an elder in the Reformed Church in America and have been an elder in the United Presbyterian Church. I’m very impressed with — no, I’m in downright awe of — the Nazarene century-long egalitarian theological view of men and women in marriage and church. I love Nazarenes.

I’m married to Linda, who is a radiologist, and we have two married daughters. My wife and I were both raised Plymouth Brethren. Even though we have long since left that religious tradition and have had a wide experience with a variety of Protestant denominations, we would still consider ourselves evangelicals. But we believe that restricting women from using their leadership gifts in church is one form of quenching the Spirit, and that patriarchalism, even couched in Christian terminology and soft approaches is bad for marriages. I am not a theologian or pastor, but just a churchman who is currently studying these issues. This blog is a record of my readings and some of my thoughts as I explore and try to gain an understanding of my Christian egalitarian journey. I’m also trying to understand the negative effects of being raised as a hierarchicalist and how we can continue to improve our 37-year egalitarian marriage.
