New Testament Scholars and Gender Issue Politics

Dr. Craig Keener also said that it is very dangerous politically to write on this issue of gender equality as a New Testament scholar because you are likely to get the rest of your writings marginalized by people who disagree with you on this issue. There are a number of evangelical institutions that will never hire you if you have written something on the egalitarian side. As well, a hierarchicalist would have trouble getting hired at evangelical institutions that hold egalitarian views. There are few institutions that are tolerant of both the male leadership and gender equality positions for their New Testament scholars. This dicotomy severely shrinks the number of institutions at which a newly trained New Testament scholar is likely to be welcomed.
