Something about Mary

CBE Workshop: There is something about Mary: From Magnificat to Model Disciple.

I chose this workshop when I realized that the leader would be the author of a quotation which had appeared on a recent issue of the monthly publication of our Missouri Synod congregation.

One of the visual aids was an ancient painting of Mary and the Holy Infant. I was deeply moved by what seemed a look of mutual total involvement in the face of each. On the one hand, that look prepared my heart to dwell on the magnitude with which God chose to break into time — into our ordinariness, so that time itself will never be the same again. On the other hand, in that moment God gave us the first and model disciple. While Mary was not without sin, she fully relied on God.

Beyond that core concept, Joseph Modena supplied us with printed materials, including selected bibliography, which I intend to plumb for months to come.

I was amused at one other proposed title for the workshop: “Mary for Dummies.”
